Reasons why I’ll never become a part of Threads, which competes with X, has completed its first anniversary.
Though numerous people switched from X to Threads upon release, I never created an account for various reasons; one of them being that I discontinued using Twitter five years ago and thus did not feel the requirement to join a similar social media platform anew.
I am observing identical content across different social media networks
Whenever I peruse my Instagram explore page, I come across posts that comprise of screenshots and reshared content from various sources like X, Facebook, TikTok, and Reddit.
This is because Instagram lets users create both textual as well as visual material on a single platform.
Thus Threads doesn’t seem to offer anything distinctive enough in terms of either the type or quality of its platform/content for me to warrant having yet another social media account.
I didn’t catch the first wave of excitement
When Threads was introduced one year ago, there were speculations that it would spell doom for X. However, after a year has passed by, X is still in existence despite the earlier concerns.
As for me and some others who share my views, we abandoned X outright without seeking any alternatives at all.
Although Threads experienced strong engagement during its launch, there appears to be a decline in people’s overall usage of the app.
A number of creators who initially moved over to Threads have reduced or ceased their activity on the platform.
Doomscrolling is excessively tempting
In the past, I used to spend countless hours scrolling through Twitter with a sense of impending doom.
This was facilitated by the platform’s previous character restrictions and quick-to-read content that made it effortless for one to maximize their time on social media.
While there were once enjoyable corners of Twitter like various “stan” areas, most have since become cesspools of toxicity where disengagement is the healthier option.
Moving forward, involvement in Threads may lead down a similar path.
There is an excessive number of social media platforms
I’ve got profiles on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest but I made a conscious effort this year to set screen limits in order to avoid constant social media engagement.
As a result of my reduced usage, I now have more time for indulging in other activities such as reading novels or exploring life beyond the confines of technology by watching TV among others.
Despite this, I had no desire to register for yet another social media platform.
Given that I am gradually reducing my everyday use of such websites, incorporating Threads into the equation does not seem necessary.
Furthermore, similar platforms like BeReal – where users take candid photos using their front and back cameras throughout the day in a bid to promote authenticity – haven’t appealed to me either due to these reasons.
Not utilized by any of my friends or family
Since Threads is associated with Instagram, I do follow a few of my acquaintances who have accounts.
However, the majority of them are people whom I seldom interact with. My usage of social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram revolves around staying connected to select family members and close buddies;
therefore Threads doesn’t provide me with that same feeling of closeness within my circle.
Conclusion
Above are reasons Reasons why I’ll never become a part of Threads, which competes with X, has completed its first anniversary.
Given the abundance of comparable content on various social media sites, it’s understandable why some folks hesitate to transition.
In case you’re unsure about enrolling, here are four more grounds for steering clear of Threads.
On the other hand, if you desire an alternative to X in your life, we’ve conducted a comparison between Threads and Mastodon to determine which one fits best.
Although Threads appeared to be a promising substitute for X around twelve months ago, its popularity appears to have declined.
I am now able to locate comparable content on websites such as Facebook and Instagram that boast larger numbers of engaged users with more comprehensive functionalities.
While being just one year old means there is potential for growth in the future (or decline), only time will reveal what fate lies ahead for Threads.
Thank you for your sharing. I am worried that I lack creative ideas. It is your article that makes me full of hope. Thank you. But, I have a question, can you help me?
